BARAMULLA, October 22: Security forces apprehended two suspected terrorist associates and recovered a Turkish-made pistol, ammunition and two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from their possession in Baramulla district on Thursday.
According to officials, the operation was launched by the Indian Army’s 52 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), in coordination with Baramulla Police, following credible intelligence inputs. The two suspects were apprehended from the Darpura Nursery area near Delina Ghat in Baramulla.
During a search, security personnel recovered one Turkish-made Kanik pistol, one magazine containing 10 rounds and two IEDs from the individuals.
Officials said both suspects belong to the Chinkipura area of Sopore. Preliminary investigations suggest that they were allegedly working as overground workers (OGWs) and may have been involved in transporting weapons and explosives for terrorists.
The recovery of the arms and explosive devices is being viewed as a significant development in the ongoing efforts by security forces to disrupt terror-related activities in the region.
Further investigation has been initiated to establish the suspects’ alleged links, identify their possible associates and determine the intended use of the recovered weapons and explosives.
