Heavy Rains Trigger Mudslide on Mughal Road, Hundreds of Vehicles Stranded
JAMMU, June 29: Hundreds of vehicles were left stranded after heavy rainfall triggered a massive mudslide on the Mughal Road, disrupting traffic on the key route connecting Rajouri and Poonch districts with the Kashmir Valley, officials said on Monday. The mudslide, caused by continuous downpours, blocked a stretch of more than half a kilometre near Pir Ki Gali, bringing traffic to a complete standstill. Officials said passenger vehicles as well as goods carriers remained stranded on both sides of the affected road while authorities rushed road clearance teams and heavy machinery to the site to remove debris and restore connectivity. Commuters have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel on the Mughal Road until the route is cleared and weather conditions improve. The Mughal Road serves as a vital alternative link between the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in the Jammu region and Shopian in the Kashmir Valley, making it an important transportation corridor for residents and traders alike.
