MENDHAR/JAMMU, Sept 22: Three rusted landmines were recovered and safely destroyed in the Mendhar sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Tuesday, officials said.
According to officials, Army personnel found the explosive devices while carrying out work in the Phagwari Gali area near the border village of Dharana Basoni.
The recovered mines were subsequently destroyed by the Army’s bomb disposal team in a controlled operation. No damage or casualties were reported in the process.
Officials said landmines are deployed by security forces along vulnerable routes as part of counter-infiltration measures. However, the devices can sometimes become dislodged due to heavy rains and other natural factors.
