Srinagar, October 13: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to experience unsettled weather over the next three days, with rain expected across several areas and light snowfall possible in higher-altitude regions. Weather conditions are expected to improve after October 15, with predominantly dry weather forecast from October 18 onwards.

BookLocal ToursAccording to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), thunderstorms, lightning and squally conditions are likely on October 13, while a warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for October 14. No further weather warnings have been listed for the Union Territory from October 15 to 19.

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast intermittent light to moderate rainfall at many places between October 13 and 15 due to a Western Disturbance. Higher reaches may also receive light snowfall during this period. The precipitation is likely to occur in spells, with intervals of dry weather between showers.

The wet spell may also keep daytime temperatures below normal, bringing cooler conditions across the Kashmir Valley and adjoining areas.

For October 16 and 17, weather conditions are expected to improve, although brief showers cannot be ruled out at isolated places, particularly in higher-altitude areas during the afternoon or evening.

The extended forecast suggests predominantly dry weather from October 18 to 22, with the possibility of isolated brief showers at a few locations.

Meanwhile, farmers have been advised to take precautions to protect harvested crops, including apples and paddy, and ensure their safe storage amid the possibility of rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds.

People travelling to higher reaches have also been advised to remain alert and follow official weather updates, particularly in view of the heavy rainfall warning for October 14.

The IMD and the Meteorological Centre Srinagar have advised people to monitor subsequent forecasts, as weather conditions may change depending on the movement and intensity of the prevailing weather system.
