JAMMU, Sept 9: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday conducted a comprehensive mock drill at a Border Police Post along the Indo-Pak border in Samba district to assess operational preparedness and strengthen security arrangements.
Officials said the exercise was aimed at testing the effectiveness of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to be followed in the event of a fidayeen or armed attack.
The drill was led by the Additional Superintendent of Police, Samba, and attended by the Deputy Superintendent of Police, personnel of the Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Incharge of Mawa Border Police Post.
During the exercise, personnel were briefed about their respective responsibilities during an emergency, including the duties of sentries, the response to suspicious movement or an armed attack, and the role of the LMG post and sentry.
Emphasis was also laid on timely activation of the alarm system and technical monitoring of the operation by designated police personnel.
Officials said special focus was placed on the immediate dissemination of information to the SOG, police control rooms in Samba, Jammu and adjoining districts.
Personnel were further briefed on safe and coordinated movement after ensuring clear visibility, including advancing in buddy pairs while maintaining wireless communication.
A detailed debriefing session was held after the exercise to assess the response and identify areas requiring further improvement.
Meanwhile, Samba Police displayed the contact number of PCR Samba at water pump sheds located in agricultural fields in villages falling under the jurisdiction of Border Police Posts.
The initiative is intended to provide farmers, residents and other members of the public easy access to police so they can promptly report suspicious movement, activities or unidentified persons in their areas.
Similar mock drills are being conducted in other villages under the jurisdiction of various Border Police Posts, officials said.
Samba SSP Anuj Kumar reiterated that public cooperation is an important component of an effective security mechanism, particularly in border areas.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity to police to facilitate timely verification and preventive action.
