118 Km Of Roads Macadamized Across Srinagar In Current Fiscal: Dy CM

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 29: A total of 118.06 km of roads have been macadamized or upgraded across Srinagar district during the current financial year through the joint efforts of the Public Works (R&B) Department and Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary informed the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.

Replying to a question raised by MLA Ali Mohammad Sagar, the Deputy Chief Minister said 15.43 km of roads in the Khanyar constituency had been upgraded under special development directions.

He also informed the House that community centres operated by the R&B Department in Srinagar generated ₹6.83 lakh in revenue during 2025-26, compared with ₹4.15 lakh in the previous year. The revenue is being used for essential maintenance works.

Choudhary said the Government is also working on removing bottlenecks and widening key road corridors in Srinagar under the supervision of the High-Level Committee (HLC).

On Syed Meerakshah Road, he said the road has a total length of 10.33 km, of which 2.68 km has been widened, representing around 25.95 per cent physical progress. Settlement and land acquisition have been completed for 132 of the 332 affected structures.

For the Khanyar-Zadibal-Pandrath Road, measuring 12.45 km, the Government has acquired 161 of the 314 identified structures, while around 2 km of the corridor has been widened.

On the Koolipora-Budoobagh Road, a 435-metre widening project has completed 231 metres of work. Fourteen of the 29 affected structures have been cleared, while the remaining 15 cases are under expedited resolution. The project has been approved at an estimated cost of ₹4.50 crore.

The Deputy Chief Minister said the widening and upgradation proposal for Devi Angan-Hawal Road has been submitted under the CRIF scheme at an estimated cost of ₹31.25 crore. The proposal includes ₹30 crore for land acquisition and utility shifting and ₹1.25 crore for development work along a 1.40-km stretch.

Regarding the Alamgiri Bazar Chowk project, Choudhary said the work has been approved under the UT Sector at an estimated cost of ₹3.35 crore, including acquisition of five structures and redesigning of the junction.

For the Buchpora-Hazratbal Road, administrative approval for the revised DPR is awaited. Land acquisition proceedings involving 34 structures have been initiated, with two structures already acquired. The Government has received ₹7 crore for bottleneck removal, of which ₹20 lakh has been released for acquiring the two structures.

The Deputy Chief Minister also informed the Assembly that work on the Babapora-Haba Kadal Road has progressed substantially, with only four structures remaining to be removed.

On the Habba Kadal-Gowkadal Road, 24 structures are still pending acquisition. An amount of ₹21 lakh is currently available, while additional funds are required to complete the acquisition and undertake further widening.

For the Fateh Kadal-Habba Kadal via Chinkral Mohalla Road, 176 structures have been identified for acquisition and removal. Of these, 13 have been notified under Section 4 and eight have already been acquired through the High-Level Committee.

Choudhary said delays in some projects were due to court cases, pending Section 4 notifications, family-related title disputes and compensation assessments.

He said the department is implementing a streamlined mechanism following decisions of the 264th HLC meeting to resolve pending land acquisition claims.

The Government is also coordinating with the Collector, Land Acquisition (PWD) for verification and timely release of compensation to affected parties, with the aim of reducing public inconvenience and improving Srinagar's road infrastructure.
