Udhampur: Member of Legislative Assembly, Chenani-Ghordi, Balwant Singh Mankotia, today laid the foundation stone and performed Bhoomi Pujan at Kud for the much-awaited alternative 33 KV power supply line from Batote to Chenani, which will also strengthen the electricity supply network in Chenani and Latti Tehsils.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Mankotia said that the project, being executed at an estimated cost of ₹2.65 crore, is aimed at providing Chenani with an additional and reliable source of power supply. He said that the work on this important electricity infrastructure project is targeted to be completed by the end of November this year.
“On completion of the project, Chenani will have an alternative 33 KV power supply link from Batote, in addition to the existing supply from the Udhampur side. This will significantly strengthen the power distribution network in Chenani and provide much-needed backup during emergencies,” Mankotia added
During the programme, local residents warmly welcomed MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia by garlanding him. The people expressed their happiness over the commencement of the project and thanked the MLA for taking up the long-pending demand for an alternative power supply line in the area.
Mankotia said that the need for an alternative power source was particularly felt during the serious electricity crisis following heavy rains last year, when the Chenani area remained without proper power supply for nearly 22 consecutive days. At present, the Udhampur Grid Station remains the primary source of power supply for Chenani, making an alternative arrangement essential in the event of natural calamities, technical faults or damage to the existing line.
He said that once the alternative 33 KV line becomes operational, in case the Udhampur-Chenani power line is disrupted for any reason, power supply to Chenani can continue through Batote. This will help reduce the possibility of prolonged power outages and ensure greater reliability of electricity supply during emergencies.
MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia said that strengthening basic infrastructure and ensuring reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply remains one of his priorities for the Chenani-Ghordi constituency. He expressed confidence that the completion of the project would provide considerable relief to the residents and further strengthen the region’s power infrastructure.
He said that the availability of an additional power supply source from Batote, along with the existing Udhampur supply, would make the electricity network in Chenani more reliable, resilient and better equipped to deal with natural disasters and technical disruptions.
The project is being seen as an important step towards strengthening the electricity infrastructure and ensuring a more reliable and resilient power supply network for the people of Chenani and Latti.
