Taxi operators, traders join ‘Jammu Yoddha’ campaign
Jammu, September 7: Shiv Sena (UBT) Jammu and Kashmir on Monday extended its signature campaign seeking to strengthen Jammu’s rail connectivity to taxi operators at Jammu Tawi Railway Station and traders at Shiv Market.
Led by State President Manish Sahni, the party collected signatures supporting its demand to make Jammu Tawi a major and final terminal for long-distance trains, besides introducing regular connecting services to Katra, Srinagar and other major destinations.
Shiv Market President Vishwamitra Gupta, Senior Vice-President Rajinder Saraf, and Jammu Tawi Taxi Union President Davinder Chaudhary , president Mangal Market Mangal Sharma and Om Parkesh were also present on the occasion.
Sahni said Jammu should not remain merely a transit point for trains passing through the region.
“Passengers must stay in Jammu, shop in local markets, use taxis and spend at hotels and restaurants. That is how rail connectivity can generate business and employment,” he said.
He said making Jammu Tawi a final terminal would increase passenger footfall and benefit taxi operators, traders, hoteliers and other local businesses.
Sahni said the ‘Save Jammu’s Trade and Employment’ campaign had moved beyond politics, with those supporting the signature drive being brought into the ‘Jammu Yoddha’ campaign to collectively raise their voice for Jammu’s trade, employment and local economy.
He said the signature campaign would be expanded to other business and transport sectors and would continue until Jammu Tawi is developed as a major rail hub and principal final terminal.
