J&K Notifies CBG Policy 2026 To Promote Clean Energy And Waste-To-Wealth

JAMMU, Oct 2: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has notified the Jammu and Kashmir Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) Policy 2026, marking a step towards promoting clean energy, strengthening the circular economy and converting organic waste into useful resources.

The policy, approved by the Council of Ministers, provides a framework for converting organic waste into compressed bio-gas and high-quality bio-fertilisers.

According to the Government, the policy includes several measures to support the development of the CBG sector, including capital expenditure assistance, subsidised land leases, Single Window clearances, feedstock aggregation and market linkages for bio-manure.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening waste management while creating opportunities for farmers, attracting green investments and generating employment and livelihood opportunities in rural areas.

The policy is also expected to support the development of the CBG value chain across Jammu and Kashmir by encouraging the utilisation of locally available organic waste as a resource for clean fuel production.

The Chief Minister congratulated Minister for Science and Technology Satish Sharma and the concerned department on the notification of the policy, describing it as an important step towards sustainable energy development in Jammu and Kashmir.
