Heavy Rain Continues to Batter Jammu Region; Major Pilgrimages Suspended for Third Consecutive Day
Jammu, Jul 21: Relentless rainfall continued to lash large parts of the Jammu region on Tuesday, disrupting normal life and keeping authorities on high alert amid the threat of landslides and flash floods. Officials said at least 23 people have lost their lives, while seven others remain missing in rain-related incidents reported from Poonch, Rajouri and Doda districts since Sunday. In view of the continuing adverse weather conditions, all major pilgrimages, including the Shri Amarnath Yatra, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra, Shiv Khori Yatra and Machail Mata Yatra, remained suspended for the third consecutive day due to heavy rainfall, landslides and the heightened risk of flash floods. Authorities said the situation is being monitored round-the-clock, with district administrations, disaster response teams, police and other agencies remaining on the highest level of alert in vulnerable areas to ensure public safety and respond swiftly to any emergency.
