Jammu, September 19, 2026: Senior BJP leader and former Minister Bali Bhagat today said that the latest student-union election results, particularly the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) and Panjab University verdicts, have sent a strong political message about the engagement of India’s younger generation with nationalism and national issues.
Reacting to the DUSU results, Bhagat said that landslide victory of ABVP winning three key seats cannot be dismissed as an ordinary campus result. “The message from Delhi University is loud and clear—Gen Z is not with ‘jhooth ki goonj’; Gen Z is increasingly conscious of nationalism, national interest and the future of Bharat. Those who were trying to manufacture a narrative that young India has turned away from nationalism should look at the ballot box,” Bhagat said.»
Taking a direct swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Bhagat said that the opposition cannot define the political thinking of India's youth through speeches, social-media campaigns or what he called “manufactured narratives”. “Rahul Gandhi and his political ecosystem have repeatedly tried to create a particular narrative about India and its youth. But the young voter is not so easily influenced. The student knows the difference between political rhetoric and the ground reality. The DUSU result is a reminder that you cannot keep telling lies about Bharat and expect the youth to accept them,” he said.»
Bhagat further remarked “Those who spread false narratives against Bharat have received a tight political slap from the ballot. The ‘jhooth ki goonj’ may be loud, but the voice of the voter is louder.”
He also took a swipe at what he described as the “naraz fuffa” brigade, saying those who had repeatedly predicted the political alienation of young Indians should now examine the results.
“The so-called ‘naraz fuffa’ who were waiting to declare that Gen Z had rejected nationalism should wake up. Gen Z is not politically silent. Gen Z is watching, questioning and participating—and nationalism remains an important part of that conversation,” Bhagat said.
“Panjab University has once again demonstrated that the youth vote cannot be taken for granted. With Punjab heading towards its next Assembly election, every political party should understand that Gen Z will examine its politics, its priorities and its vision for India and Punjab.”
The 2027 Punjab Assembly election is expected to elect all 117 members of the state Assembly, making youth engagement an important issue for political parties. However, Bhagat said a university election should not be treated as a direct prediction of an Assembly result.
Bhagat also pointed to ABVP’s reported sweeps at several DU colleges, including SRCC, Aditi Mahavidyalaya and Bharti College, as evidence of its organisational presence across campuses.
Concluding, Bhagat said “The real lesson is simple: never underestimate Gen Z. This generation wants a strong, confident and developed Bharat. The political noise may continue, the ‘jhooth ki goonj’ may continue, and the ‘naraz fuffa’ may continue to complain—but the youth will make its own choice. And our belief remains clear: Ayega Toh Modi Hi.”
