GURUGRAM, SEPT 16: Biker Shivani Chauhan, also known as Sia, who was allegedly hit by a car on Gurugram’s Golf Course Road, has called for strict action against the accused and the other individuals who were allegedly present in the vehicle during the incident.
Speaking to the media after recording her statement before a district court, the 27-year-old biker said the arrest of Kalyan Bainsla alone was not enough and demanded that the other occupants of the car also be investigated and, if found involved, arrested.
“There were two other people in the car. They should be arrested as well. They must be punished,” Chauhan said, adding that such incidents could continue if strict action was not taken.
Bainsla, 33, and his cousin Lovneesh, 34, were arrested by Gurugram Police in Rajgarh, Rajasthan, following a two-day search. The police had launched a search after Bainsla allegedly went absconding after appearing in a media interview and later switched off his mobile phone.
Chauhan also responded to remarks by Bainsla’s cousin Kamal, who had claimed that she was “playing the victim card” and maintained that Bainsla was innocent.
Rejecting the allegations, Chauhan said she had not sought publicity following the incident and maintained that she would pursue the matter through legal channels.
She told the court about the circumstances of the incident and said she feared for her life. She also stated that she suffered injuries and that doctors had advised her to undergo an MRI and X-rays.
According to police, Chauhan was riding an Aprilia RS 457 on Golf Course Road when a Maruti Suzuki Ciaz allegedly approached from behind and struck her. Police said the vehicle was registered in the name of an acquaintance.
Gurugram DCP (East) Sandeep Kumar said the investigation indicated that the car allegedly hit the biker following an argument. Police are examining CCTV footage and social media videos as part of the investigation.
Gurugram Police Commissioner Sibash Kabiraj said the attempt-to-murder charge was added after scrutiny of available video footage and other evidence.
The case was initially registered suo motu at Sector 56 Police Station after a video of the alleged incident was posted on Instagram on September 14. After Chauhan joined the investigation and submitted her complaint, police added Sections 109, 78 and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to attempt to murder, stalking and acts against the modesty of a woman.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and further action will depend on the evidence collected in the case.
