Body of Woman Swept Away by Floodwaters Recovered in Jammu After Three-Day Search

Jammu, October 13: The body of a woman who was swept away by floodwaters on the outskirts of Jammu city was recovered on Tuesday evening after a three-day search operation involving the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local police, officials said.

The deceased, identified as Ruksana Kouser, wife of Mohd Kaleem, was swept away by a strong water current in the Bagani Talab-Flora nallah in the Chinore area following heavy rainfall on October 11.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (SDRF) Albeena Malik confirmed that the woman's body was recovered from the flood channel during the search operation in flood-affected areas, including Gumpul in Domana.

Rescue personnel faced considerable challenges due to strong water currents and difficult terrain while searching for the missing woman.

The family members expressed gratitude to the rescue teams for their coordinated efforts in recovering the body.

Earlier, SDRF Commandant Mohd Aslam visited the affected areas to assess the situation and review the ongoing operation. He was accompanied by SDPO Domana Tahir Sheikh, DSP SDRF Dinesh Gupta and Deputy SP (Trainings) SDRF Rohit Dev Singh.

The officers interacted with personnel deployed at the site and reviewed the challenges faced during the operation. Aslam directed the teams to maintain coordination and continue their efforts with dedication.

According to family members, the incident occurred when the couple attempted to prevent their car from being swept away by floodwaters. Kaleem was reportedly trying to reverse the vehicle after it stalled when the strong current swept Ruksana away.
