WASHINGTON, SEPT 16: The US House of Representatives on Wednesday voted to block a resolution seeking the impeachment of President Donald Trump.
The House voted 232-147 to table the measure, while 47 lawmakers voted present, effectively preventing the impeachment resolution from moving forward.
The resolution was introduced by Democratic Representative Al Green of Texas, who has repeatedly sought to initiate impeachment proceedings against Trump. The latest effort focused on the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement policies.
The vote was on a motion to table the impeachment resolution rather than a vote to impeach Trump himself. Under the US Constitution, the House has the sole power to impeach federal officials, while the Senate conducts impeachment trials.
The latest development comes amid renewed political debate over Trump's administration and its policies ahead of the November 2026 midterm elections.
Trump has previously said that Democrats could seek to impeach him if they regain control of Congress following the midterm elections.
The House action means the latest impeachment initiative will not proceed through the chamber at this stage.
