KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 4: Two workers were rescued alive from a tunnel at the Trishuli 3A hydropower project in Nepal’s Rasuwa district, 10 days after the devastating Bhotekoshi flash floods struck the region.
The rescued workers have been identified as 45-year-old Kabir Maharjan and 30-year-old Sanjay Sah. Maharjan was serving as a mechanical supervisor at the project, while Sah was working as a foreman, according to the Nepal Army’s Public Relations Directorate.
The Nepal Army-led security command had been conducting an intensive search and rescue operation using specialised equipment to locate the workers trapped inside the tunnel.
The rescue operation gained momentum after rescuers heard voices coming from inside the tunnel and managed to establish communication with those believed to be trapped.
Following the breakthrough, personnel from the Nepal Army and Armed Police Force intensified efforts to reach the workers and safely bring them out.
The successful rescue comes amid ongoing relief and recovery operations in areas affected by the recent flash floods.
