Two Arrested for Alleged Gang Rape, Filming Assault in Baramulla

BARAMULLA, Jul 28: Baramulla Police on Tuesday arrested two men for allegedly gang raping a young woman and recording the assault on video, following an investigation based on technical evidence and human intelligence. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, Gurinderpal Singh, said the survivor approached Police Station Baramulla on July 25 and alleged that she and a male friend were confronted by two men while on an outing at Jalsheeri Drangbal. The accused allegedly assaulted the duo, sexually assaulted the woman, and recorded the incident on video, which was later reportedly shown to others. Police initially faced difficulty identifying the accused as the survivor knew them only by their first names. However, sustained investigation led to the identification and arrest of the suspects on Monday. The accused have been identified as Shakir Ahmed Lone and Mohammed Ashraf, both residents of Jalsheeri. Police said both are drivers by profession, while Ashraf, aged 27, is married. SSP Singh said both accused are in police custody and the investigation is being conducted in a fair, impartial and time-bound manner in accordance with the law.
