NEW DELHI, Sept 5: President Droupadi Murmu has called upon teachers to shape generations of students with a scientific outlook, ethical values and a strong spirit of “nation first”.
In an article titled ‘Shaping Minds; Building the Future’ issued on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, Murmu said teachers have a sacred responsibility to guide students towards becoming responsible and compassionate human beings.
She said students who achieve success while remaining ethical in their thoughts and actions are a true reflection of a teacher’s contribution.
Noting that India is steadily moving towards becoming a developed nation with social inclusion at its core, the President urged teachers to instil respect for the country’s rich cultural heritage and traditions among students.
She also called for nurturing a scientific temperament, concern for humanity, commitment to Antyodaya, environmental protection and a pursuit of individual and collective excellence.
Murmu said parents and guardians place immense trust in teachers when they send their children to school, and teachers must uphold this responsibility by ensuring their safety, dignity and overall development.
She stressed that a teacher’s conduct should never create fear, anxiety or a sense of inferiority among children. Instead, teachers should encourage students to become the best versions of themselves.
Promoting independent thinking, curiosity, questioning, sound judgement and the ability to reason are among the most rewarding aspects of teaching, she said.
The President noted that inspiring education can help create future entrepreneurs, scientists, artists and citizens capable of finding innovative solutions to emerging challenges.
Recalling the influence of her own teachers, Murmu said a loving and dedicated teacher can unlock a student’s potential, inspire confidence and give them the courage to face life’s challenges.
“Teachers do far more than teach a curriculum,” she said, urging citizens to hold committed and sincere teachers in the highest esteem.
Murmu expressed hope that with the contribution of dedicated teachers, India would continue to learn and eventually lead the world.
