Starlink Operations Tailored For India’s Security And Regulatory Requirements: Official

NEW DELHI, OCT 7: Elon Musk-led satellite communications company Starlink has specifically designed its operations in India to comply with the country’s security and regulatory requirements, a senior company official said on Wednesday.

Speaking at the India Mobile Congress 2026, SpaceX’s Starlink Business Operations Vice President Lauren Dreyer said the company has made significant investments in infrastructure and operational systems to serve the Indian market.

Dreyer said Starlink has established controls across its operations to meet Indian security requirements and other regulations, while ensuring that Indian user data remains within the country.

The government has already granted licences to three companies, including Starlink, to provide satellite communication services in India. However, the companies still require spectrum allocation and security clearances before commencing commercial services.

Dreyer said Starlink has already established the necessary ground infrastructure in India and is prepared to begin operations once the remaining regulatory requirements are fulfilled.

According to her, the company has set up 20 gateway sites equipped with hundreds of antennas across the country.

She said Starlink has also established its operational framework specifically for India and has invested in the infrastructure required to provide satellite connectivity services to Indian users.

The development comes as India moves towards expanding satellite-based communication services, particularly in areas where conventional terrestrial connectivity remains limited.
