Srinagar, Sept 10: Srinagar Police on Thursday said it has attached and frozen properties worth Rs 6.22 crore in six separate NDPS cases as part of its continuing crackdown on drug trafficking and the financial networks of narcotics offenders.
A police spokesperson said the attached assets include residential houses and land allegedly acquired from the proceeds of drug trafficking.
In one case, police attached a double-storeyed residential house and a piece of land at Danihama, Hazratbal, valued at around Rs 1.10 crore and belonging to Mubashir Ashiq Teeli. During the investigation, the property was allegedly found to be linked to proceeds generated through drug trafficking.
In another action, a residential house and land worth approximately Rs 1.14 crore at Mulphaq Abu Baker Colony, Hazratbal, belonging to Zubair Ahmad Rather, were attached.
Police also froze a single-storeyed residential house and 11.5 marlas of land at Dilawar Colony, Mujgund, valued at around Rs 1 crore and belonging to Mohammad Altaf Dar. The assets were allegedly acquired from the proceeds of illicit narcotics trafficking.
In another major action, a double-storeyed residential house and around 10 marlas of land worth Rs 2.2 crore at Baghaat Shoora, belonging to accused Owais Ahmad Mir, were attached.
Similar action was also taken in Lal Bazar and Shalteng, where properties worth over Rs 35 lakh each were attached. The Lal Bazar property belongs to Waseem Ahmad Langoo, while the Shalteng property belongs to Riyaz Ahmad Bhat.
Police said the attachment orders prohibit the owners from selling, leasing, transferring, altering or creating any third-party interest in the properties.
The action, police said, is part of its sustained drive to dismantle the financial infrastructure supporting narcotics trafficking and take stringent action against those involved in the illegal drug trade.
