SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 4: Security forces on Friday resumed a combing operation in the upper reaches of central Kashmir’s Budgam district following inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area.
The operation is underway in a forested and rugged area of the Pir Panjal range, close to the Budgam-Poonch border, at an altitude of around 15,000 feet, sources said.
Joint security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation (CASO) in the area on Thursday after receiving information about the suspected presence of terrorists. Gunshots were heard in the area later in the evening.
The operation was suspended during the night and resumed on Friday morning, with security forces maintaining a tight cordon around the suspected area and conducting searches across the difficult terrain.
Additional security personnel have also been deployed to support the operation, sources said.
The area lies along the Pir Panjal range, which connects the Kashmir Valley with the Poonch-Rajouri region.
There has been no official statement from the police or the Army regarding the operation so far.
