Raids In Srinagar, Ganderbal Districts In Extortion Case

Srinagar, July 20: The Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday conducted raids at several locations in Srinagar and Ganderbal districts as part of an investigation into an alleged impersonation and extortion racket. According to a spokesperson for the Crime Branch, the case involves an organised group of fraudsters who allegedly posed as officials of the Crime Branch and the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). The accused are said to have threatened senior citizens with fabricated complaints and arrest, coercing them into paying large sums of money. The spokesperson said the gang allegedly extorted more than ₹30 lakh from a senior citizen living in Srinagar. As part of the ongoing investigation, searches were carried out at the residences of the accused — Mubashir Ahmad Yatto, Naseer Maqbool Bichoo, Mudasir Sadiq Najar and Muneer Ahmad Mir. The investigation is underway, and further legal action will be taken based on the findings, the spokesperson added.
