Toronto, Sept 10 : Punjabi singer and actor Ammy Virk escaped unhurt after a vehicle travelling as part of his concert convoy came under gunfire in Abbotsford, British Columbia, local media reported.
The incident took place shortly after Virk's concert at the Rogers Forum on September 5.
According to Abbotsford Police Department, a vehicle was travelling in the 2500 block of McCallum Road shortly after 11 pm when occupants of another vehicle opened fire. Police said preliminary information suggested that several shots were fired from a dark-coloured SUV.
No injuries were reported in the shooting.
Soon after the incident, police also responded to a report of a vehicle fire and found an SUV completely engulfed in flames. The department's Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation and is probing the motive behind the shooting and whether the vehicle fire was connected to the incident.
Police described the shooting as a targeted incident but did not identify the intended victims.
Indo-Canadian media outlet The Voice reported that the vehicle targeted was part of Virk's concert convoy. The singer is currently on a multi-city concert tour across Canada and the US.
Virk, whose real name is Amninderpal Singh Virk, is a prominent name in Punjabi music and cinema. He is known for films including Angrej, Qismat and Laung Laachi.
He made his Hindi film debut with Bhuj: The Pride of India and has also appeared in 83, Bad Newz and Khel Khel Mein.
The investigation into the shooting is continuing.
