Punjab Police Bust Two Smuggling Modules, Arrest Six; Heroin, 8 Pistols Seized

Chandigarh, Aug 28: Punjab Police have busted two separate modules allegedly involved in cross-border weapons and narcotics smuggling and arrested six people, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Friday.

In a post on X, Yadav said the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar, and Counter Intelligence, Amritsar, carried out the operations and recovered 2.920 kg of heroin and eight pistols.

Preliminary investigations have indicated that the accused were involved in cross-border smuggling and allegedly received consignments of weapons and narcotics through drones before distributing them among criminal elements in Punjab, the DGP said.

Separate FIRs have been registered at the SSOC police station in Amritsar.

Further investigation is underway to trace the forward and backward linkages of the alleged network and identify other individuals associated with the cross-border smuggling operations.

Yadav said Punjab Police would continue to maintain strict vigilance against cross-border smuggling and follow a zero-tolerance approach towards narcotics-related crime and illegal arms trafficking.
