Vadodara, Sep 21: President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Vadodara on a three-day visit of Gujarat on Monday evening and left for Ekta Nagar in Narmada district 90 kilometres away by road after her helicopter could not take off due to sudden rain and inclement weather, officials said.
Murmu is scheduled to attend the presentation ceremony of the 72nd National Film Awards at Ekta Nagar near the Statue of Unity on Tuesday.
She was received at Vadodara airport by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, according to a post by the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The President was scheduled to travel to Ekta Nagar (Kevadia) by helicopter after arriving in Vadodara, but the flight was called off due to bad weather, officials said.
Vadodara Police Commissioner Narsimha Komar said the President subsequently travelled to Ekta Nagar in Narmada district, nearly 90 km away, by road along with her convoy.
"There was sudden, unexpected rain here. Because of such weather, she left by road instead of helicopter," Komar said.
She is on a three-day visit to Gujarat from September 21 to 23.
On Wednesday, she will attend the 75th annual convocation ceremony of the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda at Vadodara.
On the same day, Murmu will launch the Brahma Kumaris' campaign 'Spiritual Awakening for World Renewal' and inaugurate the 'Global Spiritual Palace' Retreat Centre at Vadodara.
She will also virtually launch the 'Youth for Viksit Bharat: Awakening Inner Strength for Nation Building' campaign of Brahma Kumaris Nadiad.
