NEW DELHI, Aug 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tribute to those who suffered during the 1947 Partition, recalling the courage and resilience of people who endured displacement, loss and immense hardship.
Marking Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on the eve of Independence Day, Modi said the Partition had torn apart countless lives, uprooted families and separated loved ones.
The Centre has observed August 14 as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day since 2021 to honour those who lost their lives in the violence and those who endured the hardships of the mass migration following the division of the country.
Modi said that despite the turmoil, people rebuilt their lives from scratch, overcame adversity and made significant contributions to the nation’s progress.
He said their experiences serve as a reminder of the strength and resilience of the human spirit.
The Prime Minister called for strengthening harmony, brotherhood and goodwill across the country and urged citizens to work collectively towards building a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
India will celebrate its 80th Independence Day on Saturday.
