NEW DELHI, Aug 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced a new initiative to provide free online coaching to young people preparing for various competitive examinations, aimed at reducing the financial burden on families.
Addressing the nation on the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day, Modi said the high cost of coaching classes often puts significant pressure on poor and middle-class families.
“Coaching classes burden the poor and the middle class. We will provide free online coaching for various exams,” the Prime Minister said.
He noted that many parents feel compelled to send their children to coaching institutes due to social pressure, even when the expenses place a strain on household finances.
Modi said the initiative would help families save thousands of crores of rupees spent on coaching while allowing parents to remain closer to their children and support them.
“We have digital public infrastructure; we have excellent talent and teachers. By bringing these resources together, we are going to build a complete network to provide free coaching to the youth of the country,” he said.
The Prime Minister said the initiative would leverage India’s digital infrastructure and the country’s pool of talented teachers to make quality coaching accessible to youth across the country.
The announcement comes as competitive examination preparation has become an increasingly significant financial burden for students and their families, particularly those from economically weaker and middle-income sections.
