Chennai, Oct 11: Welcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Chennai airport upon his arrival to inaugurate the Vadapalani-Poonamallee corridor of the Chennai Metro Phase II project, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday recalled that the DPR for the project was prepared and central approval secured during his party's tenure.
In a statement on his social media, Palaniswami mentioned that he had personally met the Prime Minister on multiple occasions to press for project funding, culminating in the central government's approval of Rs 63,246 crore in 2024.
He expressed immense satisfaction that the Vadapalani-Poonamallee corridor is now open to the public, calling it the fruition of the groundwork laid during the AIADMK administration.
Taking a veiled dig at political theatrics, he remarked that he could have easily staged a photo-shoot on the metro bridge with sunglasses or filmed a reel in a safety helmet inside the tunnel.
However, he stated that he has never believed in deceptive politics, preferring the ethos that actions should speak louder than words regardless of which party is in power.
Palaniswami also appreciated and congratulated the officials and staff of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) for their commendable contribution to the capital city's development.
