Right To Speech Does Not Mean Right To Be Anti-National!

Inking the truth | Shivang Satya Gupta | Editor-in-Chief

India is a vibrant democracy where people of every religion, caste creed and colour have flourished due to the accommodative nature of Indians who have welcomed people of all hues from all corners of the world since centuries making it India the world knows.

However India that was once known as golden sparrow has been reduced to a chaotic state where nationalism is giving way to sedition and treason with people who matter justifying it under the garb of freedom of expression. The real truth is that politics was meant to serve the people through public representation but unfortunately in most of the developing nations politics has been reduced to a means of grabbing the power by a few to serve themselves instead of the state.

Politics should be restricted to service and not governance as the real way of serving the people is by being public servants in real sense and not being modern day monarchs. In India politics is known for something not worth using for any positive thought and instead using and abusing the democracy to grab power by any means sometimes by whipping up communal passions and sometimes by just siding with the anti-nationals and separatists breeding within.

The anti-national incident at JNU has given rise to an unending debate on real patriotism and the pseudo nationalism with hardly anyone debating what the nation wants in reality. The need of the hour is India needs to eradicate poverty and develop infrastructure and employment opportunities so that the world looks towards us in a positive way.

In a country where farmers are committing suicide and not more than 60% electors come out to vote we are wasting our time in debating the right of terrorists and not the rights of the common man who is suffering for the past more than six decades. In India it has become a norm to look for ways and means to pull down a duly elected government if it takes a right path and the political corruption and lethargy has crept into our DNA which forces certain political parties to stoop as low as to side with anti-nationals to grab power.

They forget that they must respect the mandate that the people give to the elected representatives whatsoever be the percentage as it represents the sentiments of that section which came out to vote for a particular ideology. This was evident from Narendra Modi’s victory and later the alliance between two opposite parties PDP and BJP to respect the sentiments of the respective people who had mandated both the parties in two regions.

The freedom of speech that some people are debating is also confusing as one wonders after India got independence what more independence these people are expecting from India now.

The irony is that when even our sworn enemy Pakistan is speaking some positive notes about India some of our own people are polluting the politics of the nation by promoting terrorism and separatism in India. Lastly to get the real mandate it is worthwhile to make participation in elections compulsory so that we get real elected representatives to serve us purposefully.
