NEW DELHI, Aug 25: Delhi has reported around 3,000 influenza cases this year, including 2,308 H1N1 infections, prompting Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to call an emergency review meeting, Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said on Tuesday.
Singh said the situation was under control and there was no shortage of doctors, medical staff or medicines in the city.
He said the Health Department, MCD, NDMC and Delhi Cantonment Board reviewed preparedness for H1N1, seasonal influenza and vector-borne diseases.
"There is no need for panic," Singh said, adding that patients were receiving treatment and being discharged. He said isolation wards had been established in every hospital and warned that action would be taken if any hospital denied a patient a bed.
H1N1 cases account for the majority of influenza infections reported in Delhi this year, with 2,308 cases recorded so far.
The minister said people experiencing persistent high fever, breathing difficulty, chest pain, confusion or worsening symptoms should seek medical attention promptly.
