Kathmandu, Aug 28: The death toll from devastating flash floods in central Nepal rose to 469 on Friday as rescue teams continued searching for victims for the third consecutive day, authorities said.
Nepal Police said the bodies were recovered from eight districts, with 178 deaths reported in Chitwan, 110 in Nawalparasi East, 44 in Gorkha, 37 in Nuwakot and 33 in Dhading.
Another 28 bodies were recovered from Tanahu, 27 from Nawalparasi West and 12 from Rasuwa, according to the police.
Authorities said 1,545 injured and stranded people have so far been rescued from various flood-hit areas. Of them, 84 people are undergoing treatment at hospitals in Kathmandu.
Search and rescue operations remained underway on the third day of the disaster, involving 7,451 security personnel, including 2,391 Nepal Army personnel.
The flash floods were triggered after an ice-rock avalanche linked to a glacial collapse near the Nepal-Tibet border sent a massive torrent of water, mud and debris downstream.
The disaster caused widespread destruction across central Nepal, washing away homes, vehicles, roads and bridges and damaging hydropower projects.
