SRINAGAR, Sept 1: PDP leader Iltija Mufti on Tuesday urged the Jammu and Kashmir Government to increase the monthly stipend of protesting MBBS and BDS interns from Rs 12,300 to Rs 30,000.
Mufti joined the protesting interns at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar and expressed support for their demand, describing it as legitimate.
She said medical interns in J&K receive among the lowest stipends in the country despite handling a heavy workload.
“It is deeply concerning that medical interns across Jammu & Kashmir continue to receive one of the lowest stipends in the country, despite shouldering an enormous workload,” she said.
Mufti said interns are often required to work 12 to 48-hour shifts and are frequently denied adequate holidays and leave.
She urged the Government to address their concerns and ensure fair compensation for their services.
