Sanaa, October 13: Yemen’s Houthi rebels on Tuesday reported multiple airstrikes targeting areas under their control, including locations near the Red Sea coast and the Saudi border.
According to the rebel-run Al-Masirah television network, two airstrikes struck Kamaran Island in the Red Sea, while another hit Qanawis district, around 55 kilometres northwest of the port city of Hodeida.
The broadcaster also reported airstrikes in Yemen’s Jawf province, which borders Saudi Arabia, and blamed Riyadh for the attacks. Saudi authorities had not issued an immediate response to the allegations.
In a separate development, the Houthis claimed to have shot down a Saudi drone over Saada province, a stronghold of the rebel group in northern Yemen along the Saudi border.
The reported strikes came hours after air raid sirens sounded in Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, on Monday evening, with residents reporting explosions.
The Houthis also claimed to have fired a ballistic missile towards King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, which has reportedly faced a series of deadly attacks in recent days.
The latest developments come amid escalating regional tensions, with reports of airstrikes, drone activity and missile attacks raising fresh concerns over security in Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
The claims made by the Houthi-run broadcaster and the rebels could not be independently verified, and Saudi Arabia had not immediately commented on the reported strikes.
