EOW Kashmir Chargesheets Man In Fake Government Job Fraud Case

KUPWARA, Aug 22: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet against a Kupwara resident in an alleged fake government job fraud case.

The chargesheet against Abdul Majeed Mir, son of Ab Rahim Mir of Lashtiyal Kalaroos, has been presented before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kupwara, in FIR No. 18/2026 registered under Sections 420, 468, 471 and 201 RPC.

According to the Crime Branch, the case was registered following a complaint alleging that Mir had cheated the complainant of lakhs of rupees by falsely promising to secure him a government job.

Investigators alleged that the accused furthered the fraud by providing a fake and forged appointment order purportedly issued by the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of J&K Bank.

During the investigation, the Economic Offences Wing examined the available evidence and other relevant material. The allegations were subsequently found substantiated, following which the case was concluded as proved and the chargesheet submitted before the competent court for judicial determination.

The Crime Branch said Mir is a habitual offender and has allegedly been involved in 15 criminal cases registered across the Kashmir Valley.

He was arrested on July 18, 2026, and is currently lodged in Central Jail Srinagar in connection with FIR No. 12/2026 registered at Police Station Economic Offences Wing Kashmir, Crime Branch J&K.

The Crime Branch has advised the public to remain cautious against fraudulent job offers and economic scams, particularly those involving promises of government employment in exchange for money.

People have also been urged to verify the authenticity of appointment orders and official communications before making payments or sharing personal information. Suspicious or fraudulent activities can be reported to the SSP, Economic Offences Wing Kashmir, including through the agency's official email.
