EOW Kashmir Chargesheets Kupwara Man in Job Fraud Case

SRINAGAR, Sept 14: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet against a Kupwara man accused of duping people by promising them government jobs, officials said on Monday.

The chargesheet was filed before the Court of Forest Magistrate, Srinagar, in FIR No. 12/2026 registered under Sections 420, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Abdul Majeed Mir, son of Abdul Rahim Mir, a resident of Lishtiyal, Kalaroos in Kupwara.

According to the EOW, the case was registered following a complaint alleging that Mir had taken lakhs of rupees from the complainant on the promise of securing a government job for his son.

The accused allegedly handed over an appointment order purportedly issued by the Airports Authority of India. During the investigation, the document was found to be fake and forged, the agency said.

The EOW said the allegations were substantiated during the course of the investigation, following which the chargesheet was presented before the competent court for judicial determination.

Mir was arrested on July 18, 2026, and is currently lodged in Central Jail, Srinagar, officials said.

The agency said as many as 15 criminal cases have been registered against him across the Kashmir Valley. It further alleged that he impersonated influential persons and bureaucrats to deceive unsuspecting people.

The EOW has advised the public to remain vigilant against economic fraud and verify the authenticity of government employment offers before making any payments.

People who have been victims of economic fraud have been advised to report their complaints to SSP EOW Srinagar Abdul Waheed Shah.

The allegations against the accused are subject to judicial determination.
