Lucknow: As Amit Shah is set to reply in the Lok Sabha on the Delhi students' protest, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya on Tuesday hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the opposition, urging them to patiently listen to the Union home minister’s response instead of creating a ruckus in the House.
Using the Hindi hashtag #Rahul_Bhagna_Nahi (Rahul Don't Runaway) in their posts on X, both leaders criticised the opposition for the repeated disruptions in Parliament demanding Shah’s response over the police action at Jantar Mantar.
Adityanath on X said, "Democracy grants the freedom to ask questions, but it also fixes the responsibility to listen to the answers. Union Home and Cooperation Minister @AmitShah ji is fully prepared to present his stand in detail in the House regarding issues concerning students."
"The Congress and the entire opposition are expected to face the facts, uphold the dignity of the House, and listen to the reply in full. In a democracy, prestige is enhanced through debate, not by running away," he added.
Maurya accused the Congress of making baseless claims over the police action on protesters, and misleading the public.
"Weaving a web of lies, levelling baseless allegations, and fleeing the scene the moment the truth comes to light -- this is the reality of the politics of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress. They have one principle - tell lies, create a ruckus, and when the Union Home and Cooperation Minister @amitshah ji responds with facts, walk out of Parliament," he said.
"Time is a witness that whenever the black deeds of the Congress party have been exposed backed by facts, arguments, and evidence, the entire party has sought an escape route rather than offering a response. Generating baseless noise has become their nature," he added.
Further targeting the Congress, he said, “Those who have looted the country and misled the public for generations lack the moral courage to face arguments.”
Earlier on Monday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that the government was ready for a debate on the students' agitations and the police action, adding that Shah will be giving his reply on the issue.
Rijiju's announcement came shortly after a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Lok Sabha where the agenda of the House for the next three days was discussed with members from different political parties.
There has been a persistent demand from the opposition for a statement from the home minister on the police action against students protesting in the city last month.
Shah has not been seen in the House in the ongoing Monsoon session even though he has been regularly coming to Parliament House complex.
Rijiju also asked the opposition not to create any disturbance and resort to sloganeering during the discussion in the House while Shah’s reply in the Lower House.
