Beijing, Sep 12: China Southern Airlines will resume regular passenger flights between Guangzhou and New Delhi from September 21, ending a six-year suspension of the route, the airline announced on Saturday.
With the resumption of the service, the carrier will operate more than 100 weekly flights across eight round-trip routes connecting China with South Asia.
The announcement comes as Chinese President Xi Jinping visits India to attend the BRICS Summit and hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on strengthening bilateral ties.
Air connectivity between India and China was suspended following the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and remained disrupted during the prolonged military standoff between the two countries in eastern Ladakh, which ended in October last year.
The restoration of the Guangzhou-Delhi route is part of the gradual normalisation of bilateral relations following high-level engagements between Modi and Xi in recent years.
Several airlines from both countries have since resumed services on key routes, including Beijing-New Delhi.
In March this year, IndiGo also launched a daily Shanghai-Kolkata service, further expanding air connectivity between India and China.
