JAMMU, Sept 28: BJP MLA R S Pathania on Monday informed Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather that the party has submitted a notice seeking his removal from the post of Speaker.
Pathania conveyed the BJP's decision during the proceedings of the Assembly and placed the notice before the Speaker, according to officials.
The move comes amid continuing differences between the BJP and the ruling benches over the conduct of proceedings and various issues being raised in the House.
The notice seeks consideration of the removal of Rather from the post of Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. Further action on the notice will be taken in accordance with the rules and procedures governing the functioning of the House.
The BJP, the main opposition party in the Assembly, has in recent proceedings raised concerns over the manner in which debates and other legislative business are being conducted.
The latest development is expected to be taken up through the prescribed legislative procedure, with the Speaker and the House required to follow the relevant provisions governing a motion seeking removal from the chair.
The move adds to the political differences between the opposition BJP and the ruling benches during the ongoing Assembly proceedings in Jammu and Kashmir.
