SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 18: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday handed over appointment orders to 29 newly selected Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs) of the J&K Police (Gazetted) Services at Lok Bhavan in Srinagar.
Addressing the newly inducted officers, Sinha said the police uniform carries a responsibility to serve and protect people, and that the badge should be viewed as a symbol of service, commitment and responsibility rather than authority.
The Lieutenant Governor said policing in Jammu and Kashmir is facing increasingly complex and evolving security challenges, requiring officers to continuously adapt to changing circumstances.
“Jammu and Kashmir today is facing challenges that police officers a decade ago might not even have imagined. The nature of terrorism is changing, and the battle is no longer being fought with conventional weapons alone,” Sinha said.
Congratulating the officers and their families, he described their appointment letters as more than routine administrative documents, saying they represent the trust and expectations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Sinha said the appointment of the 29 officers reflects a commitment towards ensuring the safety and security of the people of the Union Territory.
He said the officers' responsibilities would require dedication, integrity and sacrifice, and urged them to remain committed to public service throughout their careers.
The newly recruited DySPs will undergo training at the Police Academy in Udhampur. Sinha said the training would expose them to rigorous physical and mental challenges and prepare them to handle the demands of police service.
“During your stay and training in Udhampur, hard work and rigorous training will be your companions. You will learn to overcome mental and physical challenges,” he said.
Emphasising the importance of public-oriented policing, the Lieutenant Governor reiterated that the badge on the uniform should serve as a reminder of the responsibility officers have towards the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
