Leh, August 22: Taking into account the recent surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in Ladakh, the Honorable LG R.K. Mathur today chaired a review meeting and took stock of the preparedness and steps to handle the situation in the coming months.
Stating that a balance must be maintained between the prevailing COVID pandemic and economic activities, LG Mathur stated that Ladakh must be prepared for any situation and directed the Health Secretary to proactively procure a sufficient amount of all essentials items related to COVID-19 on urgent basis. He also stressed on requesting the Health Ministry to send in a team of doctors to acquaint the local medical staff of the latest protocols, particularly for treatment policies. LG Mathur also directed the Health Secretary to expedite setting up of a COVID testing lab in Kargil.
The medical department was directed to conduct extensive tests, ensure prompt results, and increase the capacity of beds in the hospitals. LG Mathur also stressed on augmenting oxygen supply, particularly at all sub-divisional Health Centres, especially the areas difficult to access during the winters where oxygen concentrators may also be provided.
LG Mathur stated that the general public has a major part to play in the mitigation of the current situation. He appealed to all citizens to work hand in hand with the administration and adhere to the SOPs given by the UT Administration. LG Mathur also directed the district administration to strictly enforce the SOPs.
The meeting was attended by Advisor Umang Narula, Commissioner Secretary Rigzin Samphel, Divisional Commissioner Saugat Biswas, Additional Secretary Ravinder Kumar, DIG Police B. S. Tuti, Director Health Tsering Angchuk and CMO Motup Dorjey.
