Farmers led innovation needs upscaling form production to profitability: VC SKUAST Jammu

Jammu: A meeting of NABARD officials and Officers of SKUAST-Jammu was held in the Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat to discuss the status of ongoing project and fresh proposal to be submitted for funding to NABARD under technology transfer fund following COVID-19 SOP’s and guidelines. The meeting was chaired by Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu and Shri R K Srivistava, Chief General Manager NABARD UT of J&K and UT of Ladakh was Co-chairman on the occasion. During the meeting Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu desired that for concept note of potential areas to be prepared and submitted for funding to NABARD.

He stressed upon quality planting material production under protected conditions, development of organic cluster with credibility of product, developing strategies for increasing share of GDP in agriculture to 40% in J&K, value addition, adoption of Integrated Farming System, processing, branding and linkage of marketing channel for proper disposal of farm produce, more emphasis towards profitability, development of processing center at each KVK’s, up scaling and out scaling of farmers led innovations, formation of commodity based FPO in each district.

 

Chief General Manager, NABARD, UT of J&K and UT of Ladakh, Shri R K Srivistava, stressed upon submission of project proposal under technology transfer fund with focused action points, He focused on exploring of new thrust and niche areas like GI tagging of identified commodities, Hydroponic fodder production, Dairy technology, Poultry production, Honey bee rearing, development of local breed of cows followed by building of people’s institution. Earlier, Dr R K Gupta Director Research SKUAST-Jammu formally welcomed all the delegates in the meeting and appraised them about the status of different undergoing as well as fresh project proposal being run in collaboration with NABARD Jammu.

The meeting ended with vote of thanks.
