LG Mathur releases the first video on Yoga Asanas in Ladakhi at Raj Niwa
Leh, June 10: For observing International Yoga Day on June 21, the National Research Institute for Sowa Rigpa (NRISR), Leh has come up with a video on Yoga Asanas in Ladakhi language. The objective is to generate awareness among the people of Ladakh on the importance of practicing yoga in daily life to ensure a healthy mind and body.
The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Shri R. K. Mathur, today released this Ladakhi video on Yoga Asanas at Raj Niwas through a digital medium.
Advisor to Hon’ble LG, Ladakh Umang Narula, Divisional Commissioner Ladakh, Saugat Biswas, Director, NRISR Leh Dr Padma Gurmet also attended the event through video conferencing.
Speaking on the occasion, LG Mathur recalled that this celebration of International Yoga Day was approved by UN in 2014 due to the intervention by our Hon’ble Prime Minister and since then, it has become a truly global function. He further said, “This year the International Yoga Day was scheduled to be held in Ladakh but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it had to be cancelled.” He informed that the Ministry of AAYUSH has decided to celebrate the day using digital platforms to discourage social gathering but with the same spirit and enthusiasm. He asserted that yoga is an invaluable gift of our ancient tradition and exhorted to inculcate the habit of practicing yoga on a daily basis to keep oneself physically, mentally and spiritually healthy.
The Lt. Governor lauded the NRISR, Leh for their efforts in making the video on Yoga Asanas in Ladakhi and to bring awareness among Ladakhis about International Yoga Day on June 21 to promote their maximum participation. The LG exhorted the people of Ladakh to join in this national celebration from homes with their families on June 21. He said that in this pandemic situation, yoga would be a vital way to build our endurance and stay fit and healthy.
Giving an introductory speech about the video, Dr Padma Gurmet, Director Sowa Rigpa Ladakh said that it is the first video on yoga made in Ladakhi language based on the common yoga protocol of Ministry of Aayush. He said that the theme for this year’s International Yoga Day is “Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family” and added that their objective is to teach yoga to the people of Ladakh through this video by means of electronic and social media and to ensure maximum participation of people on International Yoga Day that will be telecast live at 7:00 A.M. on June 21. He informed that for the next 10 days each day one yoga asana will be shown on DDK, Leh along with the Ladakhi programme as an alternative teaching platform.
