Kargil: With a view to containing the spread of Novel Corona Virus ( COVID-19), the Divisional Commissioner Ladakh Saugat Biswas has issued orders for precautionary and containment measures to be adopted by the District Administration Kargil and Leh, all concerned officers of the Transport Department and stakeholders connected with passenger transport.
According to the order the precautionary and containment measures shall include the holding of vigorous awareness/publicity about the importance of ‘social distancing’ in controlling the spread of COVID-19 at nodal locations of public transport, general public to be advised through appropriate means to minimize frequency of travels, to cancel avoidable travel and to ensure the cleaning and frequent fumigation/sanitization in all public transport vehicles in coordination with the Health Department/Municipal Committee.
The order further reads that no standing of passengers in public transport shall be allowed and One-Seat-One-Passenger norm shall be enforced. Regular checking of the public transport shall be conducted by the enforcement team of the RTO/ARTO to ensure proper precautionary measures in public transport system.
The order states that appropriate publicity and awareness programmes about the precautionary measures to be followed to contain the spread of COVID-19 shall be conducted amongst the drivers, helpers and conductors by involving the Transport Unions and other stakeholders in the process. Furthermore, the Traffic Police shall ensure constant vigil and assist in the enforcement of the above instructions in consultation with the Transport authorities.
