Ramnagar: The burning issue of persistent landslides at Kogha impugning road traffic on Rown-Ramnagar road has found an echo with Ranbir Singh Pathania, State Spokesperson J&K BJP, taking it up with K K Sharma, Advisor to Lt. Governor.
He canvassed for immediate refurbishment of the said road which has caused unnecessary and uncalled for nuisance and difficulty to daily commuters. He recalled that landslides on the affected portion at Kogha had caused loss of lives of two young cattle-grazers, a few time ago. He also proposed an alternative road- alignment so as to ensure that road-traffic is not, every off and on, suspended on the ever-busy road which connects about two lacs population of Ramnagar as well as adjoining areas.
Whereas K K Sharma acting firmly on the request of Pathania directed Chief Engineer, PW (R & B) Jammu to ensure that motor-path is immediately provided to the vehicles. And concrete permanent measures need to be ensured as to ensure prevention of such incidents in future.
Pathania further informed that the issue which was vociferously raised by him during the various sittings of legislative assembly, especially in March 2018-session of the Assembly. Conceding to the demand, the then govt. had agreed for providing immediate funds for repair and refurbishment of this road which caters to a large population before 31st March, 2018. But to the utter dismay and disregard to the commitments made on the floor of house, funds have not been provided and condition of road is worsening day in and day out, giving an open invitation to accidents.
Pathania further called for four-laning of Roun-Ramnagar road. He said that there is urgent need for construction of circular road from Udhampur-Ramnagar-Dudu-Basantgarh-Chenani-Udhampur to harness the vast tourism potential of the area.
He said that funds under CRF/National Highway Project should be demanded for taking up this mega infrastructure project. Pathania said that Rown-Ramnagar road acts as lifeline for so many people and with every passing day it is turning into a vicious death-trap.
