Minimum temperature in many parts of north India marked a slight dip on Monday, with the Kashmir Valley, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab recording 2 to 5 degrees below normal.

Delhi recorded the minimum temperature at 5.4 degrees, three notches below the normal. The night temperature dipped to 4.7 and 4.9 degrees Celsius in Lodhi road and Jafarpur areas respectively.

The maximum temperature in the national capital was 22 degrees Celsius, normal for this part of the year.

Minimum temperatures plummeted 2 to 3 degrees Celsius below normal limits in Himachal Pradesh and the day temperatures in the state also registered a dip of 1 to 2 degrees Celsius below the season’s average.

Lahaul and Spiti’s administrative centre Keylong remained the coldest place in the state at minus 15.6 degrees Celsius.

Kalpa recorded a low of minus 7.4 degrees Celsius, followed by Manali (minus 3.8), Kufri (minus 1.8) and Bhuntar (minus 0.3).

The minimum temperature in Dalhousie and Shimla was 1.8 and 2.5 degrees Celsius respectively.

The highest temperature in the state was recorded in Una at 22.6 degrees Celsius.

The wether department has predicted rain and snowfall in high and mid hills of the state on Tuesday and Friday.

The temperature also continued to trend downward in Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

Drass remained the coldest place in the region recording minus 30 degrees Celsius.

Leh district of Ladakh recorded a temperature of minus 16.4 degrees celsius followed by Kargil at minus 27.8 degrees temperature.

Similarly, Pahalgam’s minimum temperature settled at minus 12.5 degrees Celsius, while Gulmarg skiing resort in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 11.5 degrees Celsius.

In Srinagar city, the minimum temperature settled at minus 5 degrees Celsius, which was 4.3 degrees below the season’s average, while Qazigund recorded a low of minus 7.2 degrees, followed by Kupwara minus 6.3 degrees and Kokernag minus 5.7 degrees.

The maximum temperature at most places in the valley was above 5 degrees Celsius.

In Jammu, the temperature settled at 5.4 degrees Celsius, 3 notches below the season’s average, however, the morning sun provided relief to the residents.

Katra, which serves as the base camp for pilgrims visiting Vaishno Devi Shrine in Reasi district of Jammu region, recorded 5.1 degrees Celsius while Bhadarwah township of Doda district recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.5 degrees Celsius.

Over the next week, the weather will likely be dry and cold over Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh while snowfall and rain are expected to occur at isolated places in both the union territories.

In Punjab and Haryana, Halwara was the coldest place at 1.9 degrees Celsius and Adampur recorded a low of 2.2 degrees Celsius.

Other places in Punjab which reeled under biting cold conditions included Amritsar (2.4 degrees Celsius), Faridkot (3.6 degrees Celsius), Ludhiana (2.7 degrees Celsius), Patiala (3.5 degrees Celsius), Pathankot (4.9 degrees Celsius), Bathinda (2.2 degrees Celsius) and Gurdaspur (6.8 degrees Celsius).

In Haryana, Narnaul was once again the coldest place recording a low of 2.5 degrees Celsius, while Hisar (3.5 degrees Celsius), Karnal (3.4 degrees Celsius) Rohtak (4.2 degrees Celsius), Bhiwani (5.6 degrees Celsius) and Ambala (4.9 degrees Celsius) too shivered under cold conditions.

Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, recorded a low of 5.5 degrees Celsius, while fog reduced visibility at a few places including Ambala, Hisar, Karnal, Ludhiana and Patiala.

Meanwhile in Rajasthan, the weather remained cold and dry with Alwar recording the lowest temperature at 3.6 degrees Celsius followed by Pilani (4.4), Churu (4.9), Sikar (5.5), Ganganagar (5.8), and Vanasthali (6.4).

The night temperature in Dabok, Ajmer, Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Barmer was 6.9, 7.8, 8.8, 9.7, 10.5 and 10.7 degrees respectively.

The weather conditions in the state are likely to remain the same on Tuesday.
