Srinagar, Dec 14, TEN Network |  Heavy snowfall forced closure of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway and suspension of air traffic to Kashmir on Friday, officials said.

The snowfall, which began in the early hours of the day, resulted in accumulation of snow on both sides of the Jawahar Tunnel on the highway, a traffic department official said.
Efforts are on to clear the highway for traffic, but operations are being hampered by continuous heavy snowfall, he said.

The traffic remained suspended for the second consecutive day due to heavy snowfall, officials said.
The operation had to be cancelled for the past six days due to poor visibility caused by heavy fog.

Day 7: Flight operations suspended

Srinagar: Poor visibility at the Srinagar airport suspended flight operations for the seventh straight day on Friday.

Director Airport Authority of India (AAI), Srinagar, Santosh Dhoke said all flights remained suspended for the seventh straight day.

“All the 25 flights scheduled to and from Srinagar Airport were cancelled today in view of poor visibility,” Dhoke said.

He said the flight operations will resume only after the weather conditions will improve.
Moreover, the Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only road connecting Valley with rest of the world, the Srinagar-Leh highway and the historic Mughal road continued to remain closed due to the fresh snowfall, officials said.
