Lucknow, Nov 26, TEN Network |  The Sunni Central Waqf Board on Tuesday discussed the Supreme Court’s Ayodhya verdict and decided not to file a review petition against the judgment. The Board will make a decision on the five-acre alternative land for the mosque, once the government offers the land in question formally.

Speaking to the media, senior Sunni Waqf Board member Abdul Razzaq Khan said that the majority decision taken in the meeting is that review petition in Ayodhya case should not be filed.

On November 9, the apex court had, in a unanimous verdict, paved the way for the construction of a Ram Temple at the disputed spot in Ayodhya. It had also asked the Centre to provide a five-acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for constructing a mosque.

After the five-judge SC bench delivered its landmark verdict on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute, Waqf Board chairman Zufar Farooqui did not support filing a review plea. However, some board members had expressed concern regarding his stand.

In the Ayodhya case, the Sunni board was the main litigant.  (TN)
