Srinagar, Nov 21, TEN Network | Former Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) top cop Shesh Paul Vaid said the name of Major Aditya Kumar was erroneously mentioned in the FIR of the case pertaining to the 2018 Shopian shooting case in which three stone pelters lost their lives.
Speaking about Major Kumar’s name being named in the case, the former J&K Director General of Police (DGP), SP Vaid, told Times Now, that the FIR was filed under pressure from the locales of the area. Kumar being named in the FIR was a “mistake” committed at the level the local chowki officer who recorded the complaint, he said.
“People agitate when such incidents take place, they approach the local MLAs, they approach their local MLAs or authorities and obviously the police has to record their version too, this needs to be taken into account, that’s why this (Major Aditya Kumar’s name) was reflected,” the former J&K top cop Times Now.
Vaid said there was no pressure from the higher authorities to do so and the mistake was committed by the police at the local chowki who registered the complaint.
“The FIR should not have named the Major then should not have been named. Personally I was not under any pressure but this mistake was committed by the local chowki officer, it was not on any instruction from the top,” Vaid said.
Three civilians were killed on January 27, 2018, when Indian Army personnel fired upon a stone-pelting mob in Shopian district’s Ganawpora village. In the complaint, the Jammu and Kashmir police named Major Kumar of Garhwal Regiment for opening the fire on protesters.
