Leh Oct, 6: Deputy Commissioner Leh Avny Lavasa inspected some of the on-going work of road and footpath building, public convenience and parks in and around the main market. Walking along the road stretch from Moravian Church upto Larjey House of Changspa, DC inspected the work and enquired about the materials being used in the execution of the road and footpath.
R&B Xen Tsering Angchuk and the architects explained in detail about the initial level progress of work and also explained about few required modifications for better designing and convenience of the people at large. DC further gave directions to Tehsildar and concerned officers for early resolving of any of the land issues by meeting with the concerned owners. The footpath and road work is being built by the R&B Division at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.50 crores and is expected to be completed by the summer season of 2019-20. It is pertinent to mention here that the Administration has taken an initiative to make the busy road of Changspa more people friendly and less congested, mainly during summer season.
This stretch becomes a traffic congestion area with little or no space for pedestrians as well as an area of noise and air pollution during tourist season. The road will be narrowed down to single vehicular road which would
provide wider space for footpath and pedestrians. This structural change would add up to the beauty of the green belt making it more people friendly. DC Lavasa also inspected the ongoing work of a public convenience building at Zangsti which is being built by the administration in collaboration with LEDeG, a Leh based NGO. Here the designers explained the DC about the solar passive building which would be functional even during winters.
With large glass window panes, this public convenience would also have a souvenir shop, parking as well as
public activity space. Later, the DC also inspected the newly constructed park near old dak-banglow. She was accompanied by ADC Moses Kunzang, Administrator MC Leh Rigzin Spalgon, Xen R&B Tsering Angchuk, Tehsildar Leh Gyurmet Namgyal, and concerned officials.
