Srinagar Oct, 6: Apprehending more terrorists strikes including Fidayeen attacks in the summer capital of Srinagar, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have doubled their number of nakas across the city ahead of the upcoming Urban Local Body polls.
Official sources said the police have sounded a red alert in the wake of intelligence inputs that the terrorists were desperate to carry out multiple attacks in the summer capital in the next 48 hours.
Alert had been sounded when terrorists have already targeted three political workers of National Conference in the downtown of Srinagar on Friday morning, two of whom were declared brought dead at the hospital.
Sources said there are inputs that around five to six terrorists have been given the task to carry out an attack in Srinagar by targeting some vital installations apart from the “possible target killings of innocent Kashmiris.”
As per the inputs, the terrorists are part of a suicidal squad and include some foreign terrorists as well.
“They(terrorists) are desperate to make their presence felt in the city more so when the poll bugle is sounded so we don’t want to take chances,” said a police official on the condition of anonymity.
He said there was every possibility that the group of terrorists could be hiding “somewhere around” within Srinagar. “After having killed two political workers, they may be hiding around and waiting for the moment, but our alertness will foil all their designs,” said the police official said.
The sources said police was maintaining a round-the-clock contact with the Army and the paramilitary in their preparedness to tackle any untoward situation.
The red alert had been sounded when the summer capital is scheduled to go on pools on Monday even as the pro-Pakistan lobby including separatists have called for hartal on the day.
Terrorists yesterday attacked three activists of National Conference in Karfalli Mohalla area.
