EARTH NEWS SERVICE| Srinagar, Dec 07 |15: Though the night temperature witnessed further improvement, the day became chilly due to cloudy weather in the Kashmir valley, where rain is predicted during the next 24 hours. Leh in Ladakh was coldest in the region though Kargil, a border town on Srinagar-Leh national highway recorded improvement in the temperature. After recording above normal minimum temperature, people woke up to a cloudy and chilly morning in the Kashmir valley, where scattered and isolated rain is predicted during the next few days. A Met department spokesman said their broadband internet service was down so they could not get or feed the weather data during the past two days. However, he said there was an improvement in the minimum temperature in the valley. He said, “famed health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir there was no change in the night temperature which remained 0.7 degree, about four notches above normal”. At world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, the minimum temperature witnessed further improvement. Against yesterdays minus 1.2 degree, it was minus 0.4 degree, three degree below normal. The lowest so far was recorded minus 5.5 on November 5. Kupwara, where security forces are conducting search operation in the woods for the past more than three weeks, was coldest in the valley after the minimum temperature dropped and settled at minus 1.3 degree against yesterdays 0.4 degree. Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir recorded minus 0.4 degree while it was 1.7 degree at Kokernag also in south. Srinagar recorded 1.1 degree minimum temperature, which was more than a degree above normal. Leh was coldest in the region after the minimum temperature was recorded minus 5.4 degree against yesterdays minus 4.5 degree while at Kargil it was minus 1.8 degree against minus 3.8 degree recorded yesterday.
